Philosophy of Discipleship

Philosophy of Discipleship

Because discipleship is a vital part of our purpose as believers (Matthew 28:19-20), our desire is to thoroughly equip women for this vital ministry. It is important for women to see that discipleship relationships are part of our normal day-to-day spiritual walk. As believers, we can intentionally spur one another on as followers and learners of Christ.

We recognize that women are in different seasons of life which carry a variety of demands upon their lives and the hours of their day. So we encourage each woman to prayerfully consider the opportunities for discipleship which God may have available for her to participate in. In fact, some of these relationships may already be in place, yet a woman may need some encouragement to grow in being a discipler. For example, every mother has a calling to be a parental discipler of her children (Proverbs 22:6; Deuteronomy 6:18-21). {If she is married, she is to follow the leadership of her husband in this pursuit.} Also, every woman in a Care Group has both older and younger women (both chronologically and spiritually) with whom she is already developing relationships. These would be “built in” relationships for both being discipled by and older woman, as well as discipling a younger one (I Thessalonians 5:11; Colossians 3:16).

Various methods exist for discipleship relationships. (This is why we support such a variety of discipleship experiences.) For example, discipleship can be done in a “formal” setting in which a discipler plans meetings, prepares biblical content specifically for the person she is discipling, and prayerfully journeys with her while meeting regularly OR it can be done from day to day as we build biblically based, intentional, and prayerful relationships in our Care Groups, and with families, friends, and co-workers (Hebrews 3:13).

This ministry seeks to provide support, encouragement, training, and resources for the variety of discipleship opportunities which God sovereignly provides for His daughters. In addition to providing training opportunities and biblical content (tools), we also want to come along side and walk with you. We are available to personally help you along as a discipler (through prayer, through helping you personally grow as a follower of Christ, and through providing biblical counsel as a biblical sounding board when one may be needed.)

Additional Goals:

  • We desire to model “life on life,” gospel centered discipleship, even in our “training.”
  • We desire to AVOID detracting from other vital ministries such as a woman’s home life, her commitment to her Care Group, etc. Instead we want discipleship to support these ministries.
  • We DO NOT want to compartmentalize discipleship as another individual ministry commitment, rather we want to integrate discipleship and discipleship training as a vital PART of all of the ongoing ministries a woman is called to as part of her daily life.

Being Trained as a Discipler

Training classes in a small group setting

This small training group will meet twice a month. Biblically based discipleship materials will be learned through a modest amount of homework assignments; small group discussions, and group exercises. In Phase I, the group will meet for 4 months. (The meeting day and time will be determined by the leader who will attempt to accommodate the entire group.) In Phase II each woman will disciple someone for 4 months while consistently receiving individualized support, biblical resources, feedback, and prayer. Periodic Training Seminars

This large group training experience will be offered periodically on the CFBC campus. These training seminars will include: sharing biblically sound materials on discipleship related topics; small group interaction; Question-and-Answer sessions, and more. Dates and times will be communicated via the bulletin and emails to the CCC Women’s Discipleship Ministry Group. These seminars will be offered only to the extent that there is a committed interest.
